White fillings
Conscious of unsightly fillings when you laugh and smile? White fillings blend seamlessly with your natural teeth so a virtually invisible
Filling materials have come a long way, it is now possible to place white fillings nearly anywhere in your mouth where decay has occurred. White fillings are made from a composite material, made up of glass particles, synthetic resin and a setting agent and will closely match the natural colour of your teeth.
The tooth will first be prepared, with any decay removed and the tooth shaped to fit the filling and then the composite material will be added in layers. You will be given a local anaesthetic to ensure that you feel no pain. The composite filling is set using a light source, so will be immediately hard. Once this process is complete the dentist will shape the filling so it matches the contour of your teeth and will polish it to prevent staining.
Benefits:
- White fillings match the natural colour of your teeth – Once in your mouth, white fillings will be indistinguishable from your natural teeth
- White fillings are immediately strong – White fillings are light cured, meaning you will be able to eat and drink as normal when the anaesthetic wears off.
- White fillings are bonded to your tooth – white fillings can be bonded to your teeth and this means they will often be stronger than they were before.
- White fillings are not affected by temperature change – White fillings do not contract or expand with changes of temperature so can help to ensure your teeth stay strong.
