If you are concerned that you may have bad breath, there is a simple test you can do. Lick the inside of your wrist and sniff – if the smell is bad you can be fairly certain your breath is too.

Bad breath is a common problem and one that is likely to affect everyone at some time during their life. Persistent bad breath is normally caused by bacteria present in your mouth or bits of food that may have become stuck between your teeth. Bad breath can also be caused by some medical conditions and lifestyle factors such as smoking.


A good oral hygiene routine is the best barrier against bad breath – brush your teeth twice a day using a fluoride toothpaste and use interdental cleaning aids to remove and food that may have become trapped between teeth.

Book an appointment with the hygienist – the hygienist will be able to remove any plaque and calculus that can provide a perfect home for bacteria to thrive. They will also be able to help and advise you on the best oral hygiene routine to meet your needs.

Chew sugar free gum, lozenges or mints after meals – stimulating your saliva flow and preventing a dry mouth can help to reduce the risk of developing bad breath
