Oral surgery

Teeth-Smiles-Oral-surgeryOral surgery deals with the treatment of oral conditions that require surgical intervention. The most common Oral surgery  is the removal of teeth, but it can also include the management of soft and hard tissue problems, oral infections, bone trauma and pain in the mouth.

Oral surgery can also be used to perform bone augmentation prior to the insertion of dental implants. This is when bone matter is appended to the jaw bone, stimulating bone regeneration.

Other procedures carried out in oral surgery include the extraction of broken roots which are still embedded in the jawbone and the removal of cysts or other growths from the jaws. Soft tissue surgery such as biopsies and the removal of lumps or growths on the lips or cheeks and wisdom tooth extractions are also the responsibility of oral surgeons. Treatment can be carried out wither under local anaesthetic or under sedation.
